AMES - The Iowa Central men's and women's track and field program had a windfall weekend at the ISU Open hosted by Iowa State University in Ames as the Tritons qualified for the NJCAA Indoor National Track and Field Meet in an astounding 39 events and set six school records in the process.

The meet was stacked with programs ranging from NCAA Division I to NJCAA and even some professional runners competed in events. There were no split divisions on the weekend, so the Tritons had a chance to run with some of the top athletes in the nation.

"Overall I am very happy with the weekend," said head track and field coach Denny Myers. "We didn't really have a great meet at UNI last weekend, so we wanted to really turn the intensity up for this one."

On the men's side, the Tritons had 19 national qualifiers, five event champions and set one school record. Stanley Kebenei qualified in three events as he won the Mile in 4:15.44 and was part of the Distance Medley Relay team with Calvin Kibby, Wala Gime and Derek Finsterwalder that was also victorious in 9:54.24. Kebenei also was eighth in the 1,000-meters in 2:29.87.

Finsterwalder was one of four Tritons to qualify in a pair of events as he also will compete in the 800-meters after finishing third in 1:55.48. Dan-Neil Telesford picked up the only school record for the men Saturday as he won the 200-meters in 21.49 and also qualified in the 400-meters, finishing tenth in 49.82. Alfred Higgs picked up a pair of top-3 finishes as he won the 60-meters in 6.92 and was third in the 200-meters in 21.74. Garfield Powell also qualified in both the 200- and 400-meters as he was eighth in the 200 in 21.93 and sixth in the 400 in 49.45. James White won the high jump with a 7-3 jump.

Iowa Central also had another eight individuals punch their tickets as well this weekend in single events. Darrlyn Bennet was seventh in the 400-meters (49.54). Deon Sanders (12th, 1:14.63) and Zack Gearman (14th, 1:14.70) both qualified in the 600-yards. Tor Gach was 11th in the 800-meters in 1:57.76, Kuaniyal Chol was 15th (2:33.55) and Aubrey Barnes was 21st (2:35.28) in the 1,000-meters. Jamal Boma was sixth in the 5,000-meters (15:01.41) and Chris Williams (8.15) was sixth in the 60-meters high hurdles.

The women were equally impressive at the meet as they had 20 qualifiers, five school records and seven top-three finishes.

Javonna Ford led the way as she qualified for three events. After posting the lowest time (8.93) in preliminaries in the 60-meter hurdles, Ford matched the time, but finished third in the finals. She also finished second in both the long jump (18-6) and triple jump (39-5.25).

A quartet of Tritons qualified in a pair of events. Reyare Thomas qualified in the 60-meters as she was third in 7.61 and the 200-meters where she was fifth in 24.69. Dominique Kimpel was fourth in the 200-meters in 24.56 and eighth in the 400-meters 57.69. Kimpel was also second in the 60-meters (7.58) but she had already qualified at the UNI meet last weekend. Cecilia Kumalalamene was 14th in the 600-yards in 1:29.84 and eighth in the 1,000-meters in 3:09.92. Fiona McKenna added a school record with her two qualifying efforts as she was tenth in the mile in a school-record 5:11.68 and was sixth in the 1,000-meters in 3:08.23.

Te'shon Adderley and Chantal Duncan each set three school records on the weekend. Individually, Adderley set the school record in the 800-meters as she was fifth in 2:14.35 and Duncan was sixth in the 600-yards in 1:24.11. The pair was also on both of Iowa Central's record-setting relay teams. The Distance Medley Relay team of Adderley, Sharon Kwarula, Duncan and Fiona McKenna set a school record as they finished fourth and also qualified in 12:13.84. Adderley, Duncan and Kwarula and Thomas finished third in the 4x400-meter Relay in 3:45.81. The 4x400 team had already qualified at UNI the week before. Kwarula also qualified individually in the 400-meters, she was eleventh in 58.23.

Iowa Central had five other individuals qualify in a single event, highlighted by four Tritons qualifying in the 5,000-meters. Ebeissa Nyandwi (3rd, 18:09.46), Jodi Miller (8th, 18:24.22) and Aden Alemu (10th, 18:42.22) each ran in the seeded 5,000-meters and Eveline Niyokwizigigwa was third (19:20.63) in the non-seeded 5,000-meters. Kellion Gordon was sixth in the 60-meters in 7.85.

Both programs will be in action again next weekend when they return to Cedar Falls and the UNI Dome for the Jack Jennett Invitational hosted by the University of Northern Iowa beginning on Friday, Jan. 27.
