CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - NIACC's wrestling team had four wrestlers earn top-three finishes at the Coe Turkey Invitational on Saturday.
NIACC performed their best in the 133 class with first and third place finishers. Kirk Sallis (So., Waterloo, IA) won his second tournament of the year with a 10-8 decision over Simpson's Spencer Courier in the championship round. Sallis won all of his matches in decisions, topping Iowa Lakes' Cody Smith 9-5 and Coe's Tyler Endree in the semis 6-4.
Juan Munoz (Fr., Windsor, CA) pinned Endress in 59 seconds for third place. Munoz lost in the opening round Jordan Westfall of Coe, but won his next three, including pinning Westfall in the rematch, to get to the third place match.
Wismit Moinius (So., Naples, FL) continued solid play from last week with a runner-up finish in the 143 bracket. Moinius won close 2-1 matches in the semis and quarterfinal matches. He lost to Gustavus Martinez of Grand View 3-1 in the finals.
Basil Minto (Fr., Cape Coral, FL) repeated a second place performance at 184 after dropping a close 5-4 decision to Ryan Sheldon of Coe in the finals. After a first round bye in the six man tournament, he defeated Wil Worthy of Grand View 8-4 in the semis.
The Trojans will have next week off, and then go to the Simpson Invitational on December 3.
