PELLA, Iowa -Freshman Basil Minto (Fr., Cape Coral, FL) won his second championship at the 184-class in as many weeks while Wismit Moinius (So., Naples, FL) won his second 141-championship so far this season at the Central Invite on Saturday.
Minto (ranked eighth in NJCAA at 184) won a 3-1 decision over Dan Capp of Hannibal-LaGrange University to win the championship. He was 3-0 in the tournament, pinning Jason Schweer of Grand View in 2:40 to open his championship run and then winning a 4-2 decision over William Penn's Kyle Soderblom in the semis.
Moinius (ranked in NJCAA at 141) won a 9-5 decision over St.Olaf's Ryan Timmerman in the 141 championship. It was the second time Moinius topped Timmerman in a championship this season. Moinius pinned Timmerman in the Luther Open championship on November 13. Timmerman reached the championship by recording four -straight pins.
Moinius opened with a 19-8 major decision over Alex Johnson of Augsburg, and followed with a pin of Nichola Chrisner of St. Olaf in 2:49. He then won an 11-3 major decision over Tanner Werner of Grand View and then won a 7-2 decision over Central's Tyler Perretti in the semis.
A pair of Trojans also recorded third place finishes. Andres Torres (Fr., Windsor, CA) recorded his season best with a third in the 125-pound class. After losing his first match, Torres won four-straight. He beat Abe Fernandez of Central College 5-3 to win the third-place match.
Jameel Bryant (So., St. Petersburg, FL), who is eighth in the NJCAA at 174, came away with a third place finish in the 174-class by going 5-1. His only loss was a 7-4 decision to eventual tournament champion Jordan Richardson (unaffiliated). He finished his tournament by winning four-straight, concluding with an 8-5 decision over Cody Swim of Grand View.
NIACC will next travel to Rochester for the Dual Regional meet next Saturday.
