ROCHESTER, Minn. - Sophomore Wismit Moinius (So., Naples, FL) placed fifth at 141, freshman Basil Minto (Fr., Cape Coral, FL) both placed fifth at 184, and sophomore Jameel Bryant (So., St. Petersburg, FL) placed seventh at 174 to earn All-American status at the NJCAA National Championships on Saturday.
Moinius went 2-1 on Saturday to go 6-2 for the tournament. He topped Simeon Everett of Springfield College (MA) 6-2 in the final match of his Trojan career to finish fifth. Earlier, he topped Sam Emburgia of Middlesex County College (NJ) 16-8 in the consolation quarterfinals, and lost 1-0 to Jordan Basks of Labette Community College (KS) in the consolation semis.
Minto started the day in the winner's bracket, but went 1-2 on the day. He lost to eventual champion John McArdle of Middlesex 15-5 to drop to the consolation bracket. Minto also lost to Lincoln College's (IL) Matt Dwyer 6-2 in the consolation semis, before topping Dylan Braun of Colby College (KS) 6-3 for fifth place. He finished the tournament with a 4-2 record.
Bryant went 1-1 after starting in the consolation quarterfinals. He lost his first match to Labette's Ray Hall 5-2, but won the seventh place match 11-1 over Lucas Huyber of Highline Community College (WA). Bryant ended his Trojan career by going 4-2 at the tournament.
This tournament ended NIACC's 2011-2012 wrestling season. NIACC was ranked as high as twelfth this season, and went 1-2 in duals. NIACC will lose 11 sophomores for next season, seven of which qualified for the national tournament.
