2018 Men's Soccer All-Region Teams Announced
Vacas honored as 2018 Player of the Year; Martinez, MacRae split coaching recognition.
The ICCAC announced the 2018 Region XI Men's Soccer All-Region selections today. The coaches of each team selected players for their team based upon their place in standings at the end of the conference season.
Marshalltown led the way this conference soccer slate and finished in first place by seasons end. The Region XI Champions were awarded four selections to First Team All-Region.
Sophomore midfielder Rafael Vacas returns to the All-Region list after an appearance on the Second Team last year as a freshman. Vacas was fantastic this year for the Tigers, scoring 14 goals on 26 shots during ICCAC play. Vacas scored the game-winner in the Region XI Championship game to win 1-0 in overtime against Iowa Lakes. His other accolades this season include Region XI Tournament MVP and ICCAC Player of the Year.
Sophomore midfielder Rafael Ramos also makes his second appearance of his career on the All-Region list, after making Second Team last year as a freshman defender for the Tigers. Ramos played both midfield and defender for MCC this season, making him a jack of all trades for this team.
Sophomore defender Leonardo Tomasi was a lockdown defender for the Tigers this year. Tomasi was all over the field helping the Tigers defense be dominant all season long. The Tigers were best in the league as the only team to hold opponents to an average of less that one goal per game in conference play (.90 goals allowed average).
Iowa Lakes finished the season in second place in ICCAC play, garnering them three All-Region players on First-Team.
Sophomore center fielder Nicolas Likuila makes the All-Region list after a solid season for the Lakers. Likuila scored nine goals during the conference slate for Iowa Lakes, averaging one goal per contest.
Freshman Midfielder Luto Tom had a stellar debut in his freshman season. He scored two goals on 11 shots for the Lakers this season and made his presence felt all over the field.
Sophomore Adam Pritchard made his second First-Team All-Region appearance of his career after making the list last season. Pritchard truly was the backbone of this Iowa Lakes defense, starting every game this season and also scoring two goals on just shot shots in conference play. The Lakers finished as the Region XI runner-ups and Pritchard was awarded Defensive Player of the Region XI Tournament.
Indian Hills finished third this season in conference play. Their finish earns them two First-Team selections for 2018.
Freshman midfielder David Medeiros had a tremendous debut season for Indian Hills. Medeiros scored 11 goals on 32 shots in conference play, to go along with 12 assists as well. Sacha Vandersteene also took home First-Team honors for the Warriors. Vanderstten played all 10 games in conference and scored three goals.
Iowa Central finished fourth in ICCAC play which gave them two First Team All-Region selections for the 2018 season.
Sophomore Midfielder Guillaume Rouzic made his presence felt for the Tritons this season. The France native scored nine goals on 28 shots in conference play and added two game-winning goals to boot. Also for the Tritons was midfielder, Guzman Diaz. Diaz was the team leader in points in ICCAC play with 29. He scored eight goals and added 13 assists.
