Central Community College Transitions to Region 11 from Region 9
The Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and Region 11 officially welcomed Central Community College (CCC), located in Columbus, Neb., as a conference member beginning July 1, 2025. The move marks a significant transition for the Raiders, who will depart Region 9 after a longstanding history of competition to join the ICCAC and Region 11 in all of their NJCAA-sponsored sports.
The college initiated its transition by formally petitioning the NJCAA, Region 11, and ICCAC member institutions in early 2024. That request was approved in July 2024, clearing the way for CCC's full integration into the conference the following year.
"We are excited to join the ICCAC and Region 11, and this move marks a new chapter for Central Community College athletics," CCC's athletic director Mary Young said.
"While it's bittersweet to leave the strong relationships and traditions we've built in Region 9, this transition better aligns us geographically with a premier NJCAA Division II conference and opens tremendous opportunities for our student-athletes", said Young.
"Though our region and conference are changing, our commitment to maximizing student and community success remains steadfast. We look forward to building new rivalries and relationships, while continuing to foster growth in our student-athletes both on and off the field."
CCC, nicknamed the Raiders, sponsors seven NJCAA Division II athletic programs. On the men's side, the Raiders compete in basketball, soccer, and golf. The women's programs include basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. In addition to these varsity offerings, Central Community College also sponsors two co-ed sports: eSports and Sports Shooting.
With this move, CCC became the 18th member of the ICCAC, joining Northeast Iowa Community College in the "class of 2025", which also joined the conference as the 17th full-time member.
Beginning with the 2025–26 academic year, CCC will participate in ICCAC Division II conference schedules in Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's & Women's Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball. Their Men's Golf program, which already competes in District Championship play, will continue in that format.
CCC and Region 11 institutions were very familiar with each other prior to their onboarding, oftentimes competing during the regular season and finding themselves paired up in district championship competitions as well.
