NJCAA Announces Baseball All-American Selections
The ICCAC saw six players from across the 12 teams in the league receive recognition on the 2024 NJCAA All-American lists. Three players from Division I and II earned honors this season.
Division I:
Kyle Hvidsten, Iowa Western, Designated Hitter, First Team
Iowa Western's designated hitter became Iowa Western's first First Team All-American selection since 2018 when Sean Chandler was named as a First Team pitcher. This season, Hvidsten was the top man in the batter's box for the Reivers. Hvidsten hit .374 for the season for Iowa Western while also producing 17 home runs and 70 RBI. Hvidsten also stole 22 bases during the 2024 season. The sophomore's .753 slugging percentage led the Reivers and was ranked 34th in the NJCAA.
Hvidsten had four multi-homer games this year for Iowa Western.
AJ Singer, Iowa Western, Infield, Second Team
Iowa Western's AJ Singer was named to the Second Team All-American. The sophomore from Arizona hit .396 for the Reivers this season. The shortstop knocked in 81 RBI and hit with home runs. Singer's 26 doubles ranked third in the NJCAA while also ranking 11th in hits (90) and RBI (81) for the NJCAA.
Singer wasn't just an asset on the offensive side of things for the Reivers. Singer racked up 130 assists in the infield putting him at 18th in the nation. The middle infielder also turned 21 double plays and committed just five errors in 182 chances.
Noah Scott, Iowa Western, Pitcher, Honorable Mention
Iowa Western's final All-American selection went to pitcher Noah Scott. The Reivers 6'4 freshman made 16 appearances in the 2024 season 12 of them being starts. Scott ended the season with a 12-2 record and a 3.79 ERA. The Colorado native pitched 71.1 innings and threw two complete games, both of which were shutout victories for Iowa Western. The right-hander's 12 wins ranked third in the NJCAA.
Iowa Western put the ball in Scott's hand to get to the College World Series against Wabash Valley. Scott went five innings giving up just four hits and an unearned run in a 7-5 victory to send Iowa Western to the Division I College World Series.
Scott's 7-inning, 10-strikeout shut-out against Kirkwood was statistically his best outing of the year in -- a 3-0 win back in April.
Division II:
Harrison Bowman, Iowa Central, Outfield, First Team
Iowa Central's outfielder Harrison Bowman became a First Team All-American after a stellar season. Bowman hit .436 in 56 games played with 94 RBI which led the all of NJCAA Division II Baseball. Bowman's 17 home runs marked him at 6th in the NJCAA standings and his .851 slugging percentage slotted him at 7th in the NJCAA.
Defensively, Bowman had 74 chances in the outfield making just one error in the 2024 season.
Cooper Nicholson, Iowa Central, Infield, Second Team
Cooper Nicholson was the second Iowa Central player named to the All-American team for the Tritons in 2024. Nicholson was named the ICCAC's Player of the Year following a great regular season. The freshman from West Des Moines hit .364 with 20 home runs during the 2024 season. The 20 home runs ranked second in the country. Nicholson also ranked in the top-10 in runs (76), sacrifice flies (7), and total bases (156). The Tritons infielder also knocked in 67 RBI this season for the Iowa Central squad.
Chance Key, DMACC, Pitcher, Third Team
The ICCAC's Pitcher of the Year was slotted in as a Third Team All-American. DMACC's Chance Key, a left-handed starter, appeared in 15 games in the 2024 season ending with a 9-5 record. Key's 15 starts ranked sixth in the NJCAA this season where his five complete games ranked ninth. Key threw in 83.2 innings for the Bears this season keeping a 2.47 ERA. Key's nine wins also ranks him near the top of the NJCAA's leaders at No. 12.
