Game of the Week: NIACC def. #5 Iowa Central, 104-99 (OT)
Unranked NIACC went on the road to face No. 5 Iowa Central, erasing a seven-point halftime deficit and coming away with a statement victory.
The Tritons carried a 47-40 lead into halftime before the Trojans put their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring Iowa Central 48-41 to force overtime at Hodges Fieldhouse. NIACC carried that momentum into the extra period to secure a 104-99 win. The victory marked the Trojans' first ranked win in more than a year, their first top-five win since 2023, and the program's first 30-point scoring performance since 2023, as freshman TJ Cusciotta poured in 30 points in the win.
A major factor in NIACC's success was its bench production. Four Trojans reserves played at least 20 minutes and combined for nearly 50 points, highlighted by a 14-point, six-rebound effort from Bryson Robinson and a 13-point, nine-assist performance from Jacob Martin. NIACC also shot an impressive 36-of-71 (50.7%) from the field.
On the Iowa Central side, the Tritons leaned heavily on their starters. Aleix Sempere finished with 29 points and 16 rebounds, while CJ Mitchell added 26 points and nine assists. However, Iowa Central received no scoring from its bench in a game that went to overtime and resulted in the Tritons' second conference loss of the season.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 21, traveling to face another top-ranked opponent in Ellsworth.
Iowa Central will look to bounce back as it travels to Sioux City to take on Western Iowa Tech on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
