ICCAC Releases All-Region & Awards for Division I Men's Basketball
The ICCAC Division I Men's Basketball All-Region honors were announced Monday, recognizing the standout players from the conference's three teams.
Indian Hills led the way on the First Team All-Region list with three selections. Highlighting that group was KJ LaMonte, who was named ICCAC Division I Player of the Year. LaMonte was a key piece for the Warriors all season, averaging 11.7 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. LaMonte also made an impact on defense, averaging 1.5 steals per game on a team that ranked ninth in the NJCAA in field-goal percentage defense. The Warriors limited opponents to 38.7% shooting this season.
LaMonte especially excelled against ICCAC competition, averaging 14.8 points per game on 60.7% shooting along with 3.3 rebounds per game in the four conference contests. His best game came against Southeastern, when he totaled 18 points, five rebounds and seven assists in a 72-66 win.
Joining their teammate on the First Team All-Region squad were Taj Au-Duke and Mason Costello.
Au-Duke led the Warriors in both scoring and assists this season, averaging 12.6 points and 5.1 assists per game. Playmaking was his strong suit, as he posted a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranked 16th in the NJCAA with 157 assists. Au-Duke also recorded the highest single-game point total by any ICCAC Division I player in conference play, scoring 24 against Southeastern.
Costello moved up to the First Team after earning Honorable Mention honors last season. One of the Warriors' top 3-point shooters, Costello knocked down 64 3-pointers this season. He shot 35% from beyond the arc while also averaging 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
Rounding out the First Team selections were Southeastern's Prophet Fields and Jaleel Donley.
Fields shot 54% from the field this season while averaging 10.4 points per game. He also led the Blackhawks with 3.4 assists per game while limiting turnovers. His best scoring game came against Marshalltown, when he scored 21 points on 66.7% shooting and went 9 for 10 from the free-throw line.
Donley, the only freshman on the list, led the Blackhawks in scoring at 12.1 points per game and also averaged 3.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.
For the second straight season, Cole Dewey was named Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to a 30-2 record and the Region 11 and North Central District Championships. The Warriors were ranked No. 2 in the final NJCAA poll and are heading to the NJCAA National Tournament for the fifth year in a row.
