Kirkwood Takes 11th District Title in a Row
SIOUX CITY, IA. - The Kirkwood Eagles took home their 11th straight North Central District title on Tuesday at the Whispering Creek Golf Course behind a strong team performance, leading to a three-day total of +26, one stroke ahead of Northeast at +27.
The Eagles were led by Ted Sargeant, who turned in a career-low score of -6 across the tournament, leading to a first-place individual championship -- 11 strokes ahead of second place. Sargeant bogied just five times in 54 holes and fired 11 birdies. He was the only player in the entire field to shoot under-par. Following Sargeant was teammate Ryan Lynch who shot +5 in the tournament and finished in second place after winning a playoff against Northeast's Luke Bonser.
Bonser finished +5 over as well, and had five birdies in the final round to climb up the leaderboard and give himself a chance at second place. Teammate D'Arcy White also turned in a strong final round (-1) to propel himself to fourth place. His only hiccup came when he double bogied hole 15. The two steered the ship for Northeast to finish in second place.
Southwestern's Freddie Muggeridge finished in fourth place, and earned himself another individual berth to the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championships. He shot +7 with nine birdies in the tournament. He was the only Southwestern golfer to qualify after the Spartans finished in fifth place. He was the only golfer to qualify outside of the top three teams to qualify for the national tournament.
NIACC's Garrett Ham led the Trojans to a fourth place team finish. He fired six birdies in the tournament while only bogeying two holes in the final round en route to a +8. He is the highest finishing golfer for NIACC in the district championship since 2019. His three-day total (224) was one stroke shy of Muggeridge's score (224).
Other top individual finishes in the top 10 were Tommy Dredla (T6, Northeast), Isaiah Zoske (+9, Kirkwood) and Francis Lockwood (+12, Iowa Central)
In other ICCAC team finishes, DMACC placed sixth, Iowa Central in seventh, Hawkeye in eighth, Iowa Lakes in ninth, Central in 11th and Southeastern in 12th.
