Game of the Week: Northeast def. #13 DMACC, 65-60
Northeast (9-4, 4-3) went on the road to Boone and handed No. 13 DMACC (13-1, 5-1) its first loss of the season last week.
DMACC came out of the gate looking like it was going to cruise to victory, taking a 20-8 lead after the first quarter. Northeast stormed right back and made it a ballgame again, as the game went to halftime tied at 28.
DMACC came out of the break fast and retook the lead heading into the fourth quarter, 45-34. Northeast's offense exploded in the final quarter, outscoring DMACC 31-15 in the final frame to propel the Hawks to a 65-60 victory.
The ICCAC's leading scorer, Aaliyah Jones, led the way for Northeast with 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Aweng Akoi and Lexi Wiebelhaus added 10 apiece for the Hawks.
For the Bears, Alivia Carr scored a game-high 21 points, and Chloe Costello added 17.
DMACC will look to rebound as it falls to third in the conference behind Kirkwood and Iowa Lakes. Their next conference game is a heavyweight matchup against undefeated No. 2 Kirkwood on Saturday, Jan. 3, in Boone.
Northeast will start 2026 in Creston against the Southwestern Spartans on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
