In a clash of ranked teams, No. 14 NIACC took down No. 24 Northeast, 71-64.
The Trojans trailed by six after the first quarter but surged ahead to take a seven-point lead into halftime — an advantage they maintained through the final buzzer. The performance of the night came from freshman Ciara Seifert, who scored 17 points and pulled down 22 rebounds, an ICCAC single-game high this season and a total that places her third on NIACC's all-time single-game rebounding list.
NIACC shot just 21-of-66 (31.8%) from the field, but made up for it on the defensive end, nearly collecting 50 rebounds and forcing 21 turnovers. Zaria Falls and Reggi Spotts led the defensive effort with five and four steals, respectively. Spotts also paced the Trojans offensively with a game-high 20 points.
Northeast leaned on its leading scorer, Aaliyah Jones, who posted another strong outing with 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Ayana Owens and Akeng Akoi combined for 14 rebounds, but the Hawks were unable to overcome NIACC's physical play inside.
NIACC will travel to Iowa Falls to face Ellsworth in its next conference matchup on Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m.
Northeast returns home to host Southwestern in the Cox Activities Center, also at 5:30 p.m.
