Game of the Week: #9 NIACC def. #22 Northeast
In a ranked ICCAC showdown, No. 9 NIACC continued its dominant stretch of play, holding off No. 22 Northeast for a 72–66 victory Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, Nebraska.
The win pushed NIACC to 20–2 overall and 14–2 in conference play, extending the Trojans' winning streak to 10 games and keeping them perfect in the 2026 calendar year. It also completed a season sweep of the Hawks, as NIACC previously earned a 71–64 victory over Northeast on January 17 in Mason City.
The game was tightly contested from the opening tip, with the two teams finishing the first quarter tied at 18–18. NIACC began to create separation in the second quarter by tightening up defensively, holding Northeast to just 11 points to take a 34–29 lead into halftime. The Hawks responded after the break, matching the Trojans point-for-point in a 19–19 third quarter, but NIACC maintained control behind steady scoring and strong rebounding. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans continued to execute on both ends, edging Northeast 19–18 and never allowing the Hawks to fully swing momentum, using a 46–29 rebounding advantage and timely defensive stops to secure the 72–66 victory.
Sophomore guard, Reggi Spotts delivered another top performance this year, scoring a career high 30 points. Spotts shot 11-of-24 from the field, including five three-pointers, and filled the stat sheet with eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals, earning herself perhaps the most complete performance by a women's basketball player in an ICCAC match up this year. The Trojans also received strong support in the paint from freshman forward Ciara Seifert, who recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Another key contributor was Peyton Meincke who grabbed 11 rebounds.
For the Hawks, scoring proved more difficult, but Aaliyah Jones still turned in a solid effort with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Aweng Akoi matched her with 14 points while adding four rebounds and an assist. The Hawks were also able to call on their bench for assistance with Vilique Fallis, Paige Hawkins, and Lexi Wiebelhaus combining for 23 points.
NIACC will attempt to continue their hot streak in another ranked ICCAC matchup, hosting Iowa Western on Saturday, February 7th at 1:00 P.M.
Northeast will attempt to bounce back against Iowa Central in Hodges Fieldhouse on February 4th at 5:30 P.M.
