ICCAC schools showed that they could hold their own at the NJCAA's national wrestling championships.
The NJCAA's national wrestling championships were held on Feb. 21-23 at the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines, Iowa. ICCAC schools Iowa Western, Iowa Central, NIACC, Iowa Lakes and Ellsworth hosted the meet.
Iowa Central, which went into the championships No. 5 on the NJCAA poll, finished fifth overall in team rankings with 70.5 points. Iowa Central was just 24.5 points behind the fourth place finisher in team standings.
However, the ICCAC also made many individual achievements at the national championships.
Josh DaSilveira of Ellsworth was impressive in the 197-weight class. He finished first overall, beating Riley Argyle of Western Wyoming in a 5-4 decision.
In the 184-weight class, Basil Minto of NIACC placed fifth overall. Minto beat Caleb Ricera of North Idaho in a 6-3 decision to earn his ranking.
Dillon Geoghegan of Iowa Central placed third in the 165-weight class. Geoghegan won a 7-2 decision against Kris Schimek of Niagara County to gain his position.
Also from Iowa Central, Devin Geoghegan placed second overall in the 157-weight class. He came close to placing first, losing to Justin Cash of Rend Lake in a 3-2 decision.
