Cedar Rapids to Host 2020, 2021 NJCAA DII Volleyball National Championships
Kirkwood will serve as the official host institution.
The NJCAA announced this week that Kirkwood Community College and the City of Cedar Rapids will host the NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championships in 2020 and 2021.
Kirkwood athletic director Doug Wagemester believes this will be a terrific opportunity for Kirkwood to showcase its facilities and environment.
"We felt like submitting a bid for the national tournament was a terrific opportunity not only to highlight our college and community but also to bring the NJCAA DII volleyball championship to the Midwest," Wagemester said.
Wagemester knows Cedar Rapids will offer a great environment for the national event.
"Cedar Rapids is a great location with all the travel access and amenities needed to host a tournament of this magnitude," Wagemester said. "It is our hope that Cedar Rapids and the Corridor community will contribute to both the tournament attendance and the support required to run it."
The NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championships are scheduled for November 19-21, 2020 and November 18-20, 2021 in Cedar Rapids at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Cedar Rapids has recently begun a focus on drawing national athletic events to the Corridor. The city just recently played host to the NCAA DII National Wrestling Championships and in the near future will host NCAA DIII wrestling, volleyball, and baseball championships. The city has also long hosted the IGHSAU State Volleyball Tournament at the U.S. Cellular Center.
"We'll do our best in partnership with the city of Cedar Rapids to provide a championship atmosphere; from the banquet to the final point of the championship match," Wagemester continued. "It will be a great atmosphere for student-athletes, coaches, and fans."
