Match of the Week: Southeastern def. Central, 3-0
Southeastern moved past Central on Wednesday night in three sets at home, but it was anything but easy for the Blackhawks, with back-and-forth sets all night.
Southeastern took the opening set with a narrow 25-23 victory. The second set required a 26th point, as Southeastern again edged Central 26-24. The Blackhawks kept that momentum rolling into the final set as they completed the sweep, 25-21.
Southeastern outdueled Central thanks to a strong offensive and defensive attack, tallying 12 more kills and 18 more digs in the match.
For Southeastern, the attack and defense were led by Aviana West, who led all players in kills and digs with 16 each. Setters Maddie Jones and Rylea Hinebaugh added 23 and 21 assists, respectively. Jacque Adair contributed 10 digs on the defensive end for Southeastern.
Central was led by Chloe Henn, who paced the team with 10 kills, assisted by setter Meah Sackett, who led all players with 25 assists. On defense, Mallory Dreesen recorded double digits with 13 digs.
With the regular season coming to an end for both teams, Southeastern finished fifth in conference play at 8-4 (25-18 overall). Central finished eighth at 5-7 (16-15 overall). Both teams will begin postseason play Saturday, Nov. 1, in the regional semifinals -- Southeastern on the road at Northeast and Central at top-seeded Iowa Central.
