Match of the Week: #4 Kirkwood def. #15 DMACC, 3-0
No. 4 Kirkwood continued its strong play with a straight-set victory over No. 15 DMACC on Wednesday night.
Setter Kaci Johnson led the offense for the Eagles with 11 kills while serving up her teammates with 15 assists. Outside hitter Marissa Cahoy added nine kills and middle Chloe Baez was effificent with a .625 hitting percentage. Madelyn Boyer had three aces and three block assists to hold down both ends. The Eagles had 41 kills and 10 aces as a team.
For DMACC, the Bears struggled, only totaling 11 kills total as a team, led by Brooklyn Lyfogt who had four. Ramsey Johnston had seven assists. Defensively, four bears tallied seven or more digs in a collective effort. Kathryn Lukkarinen had nine to lead the team. Emma Liechti had four blocks, one of the best performances in the conference in that category.
Kirkwood is back in conference action on the road against Hawkeye on September 9 at 6:00 PM. DMACC will look to get back on track in conference play when they take on Marshalltown on the road on September 9 at 7:00 PM. Both teams play again on Thursday as well in one of two double match weeks this conference season.
